Getting to Milos Island

This section will cover how to reach Milos Island. Please note that there is a "Milos Greece" outside of Athens that may sometimes appear if you search for Milos on Google Maps. This is NOT the island of Milos. Milos is in the Cycladic island chain closer to Crete than to Athens.

By Air

Milos has a small airport and only hosts flights from Athens. During the high season (which our wedding date is in), flights operate multiple times a day via SkyExpress and Olympic Air

You can also take a take a flight to nearby Mykonos, Paros, or Santorini airports and then ferry to Milos. This is covered in the next section.

By Ferry from Athens

Ferries are one of the most common ways to get around the Cyclades and are an alternative to getting to Milos if you do not want to take a flight. All ferries to the Cyclades start from Piraeus Port in Athens.

From Athens airport to Piraeus Port, it is 45 minutes by taxi (~€60), 1h by train (€10) or 1.5h by bus (€6)

The main ferries that operate the Athens to Milos route are SeaJets and Minoan Lines with SeaJets being the faster (albeit more expensive) ferry. As an example, Seajets offers a direct fast ferry that is 2.5h, as well as a ferry that makes stops in Serifos and Sifnos and takes 3.5h.

You can book your ferry tickets with ferryhopper.com

By Ferry from Other Islands

In addition to Athens, you can also take the ferry to Milos from other islands in the Cyclades as they are well connected by the ferry system. Seajets offers connections between these islands and Milos:

Mykonos to Milos: 2h

Paros to Milos: 1.45h

Santorini to Milos: 2h

For some of you, it may make sense to fly into other islands within the Cyclades that have airports like Mykonos, Santorini, or Paros especially if you plan to travel in Greece prior to the wedding.

If you are traveling from within Europe, know that many airports have direct flights to Mykonos or Santorini. The advantage of flying directly to these islands is that the distance between the airport and ferry terminal is much shorter than in Athens.

Once You're Here In Milos

We're excited to share with you our favorite places to visit on the island. You can easily stay 3-5 days in Milos and not be bored with what it offers. If you're traveling with a family, you can rent a car from the ferry or the airport. If you're traveling solo or as a couple, we can highly recommend renting a scooter or quad bike (we much prefer this to a car).

Sarakiniko Beach

Sarakiniko Beach is a breathtaking marvel of nature, boasting a surreal landscape of dazzling white volcanic rock formations sculpted by wind and sea over millennia. Located on the northern coast of Milos in Greece's Cyclades archipelago, Sarakiniko captivates with its lunar-like terrain, featuring smooth undulating rocks, hidden coves, and natural pools carved into the coastline. The contrast of the white rock against the deep blue Aegean Sea creates a mesmerizing backdrop.

Ancient Theater of Milos

The Ancient theater of Milos is a beautiful amphitheater located on the southwest of the island. Likely constructed during the Hellenistic period, this amphitheater is located directly in front of the Aegean and offers stunning views and photos. In modern times, this theater is still used for concerts and plays.

Klima Village

Klima village is a traditional Cycladic village on the waterfront just ouside of the main Plaka town. This quaint village enjoys beautiful sunsets every day along with colorful houses that make for amazing photo opportunities.

The Beautiful Plaka of Milos

The Plaka is the main historical town within Milos. Like all Cycladic islands, the central city of the island was always built inland and high up on a hill. This allowed them to scout and defend against pirates and other invading forces. Nowadays, the Plaka is home to the iconic white houses of the Cyclades, blue doorframes, bougainvillea trees, and endless charms.

Beaches of Milos

Milos is home to a plethora of beautiful beaches. From well known beaches like Sarakiniko, Firiplaka, and Tsigrado to small little coves that don't even have names, there's something for everyone.

Where to Stay In Milos

Milos has a variety of different lodging options for your stay on this beautiful island. There are plenty of guesthouses, hotels, B&Bs, villas for larger groups, and apartments in all price ranges. While Milos draws in large amounts of tourists, this island does not have the big hotels that you might find on other islands like Mykonos or Santorini. People in Milos still live in the traditional manner and that's what makes these Cycladic islands so charming. We've selected some properties that we like but of course there are so many other options.

Apartments & Guesthouses

The majority of accommodations on Milos will be guesthouses with individual rooms (that often times will serve breakfast), small boutique style hotels, and standalone apartments. We've compiled a list of these types of accommodations for you to choose from. Everything is a first come first serve basis and we will update this page with more places as we find them.
